The average monthly electricity bill paid by customers in each state and sector — residential, commercial, and industrial — adjusted for inflation to 2024 dollars. Bills reflect both the price of electricity and how much is consumed.
Average monthly bills are computed by dividing total annual retail revenue by the number of customers, then dividing by 12 to get a monthly figure. Revenue and customer count data come from the EIA Form EIA-861 survey.
To adjust for inflation, nominal bills are deflated using the annual CPIAUCSL series from FRED, rebased to 2024 dollars.
