What this data measures

Net electricity generation per person by state. This normalizes for population and shows each state's electricity production intensity, which reflects both local demand and the role of interstate electricity trade.

How this data is constructed

Net generation data are sourced from the EIA Form EIA-923 survey. Population estimates are from the US Census Bureau. Per-capita figures are computed by dividing total annual generation (in kWh) by the mid-year resident population for each state and year.
