Total net electricity generation by state displayed as a map, allowing geographic patterns in production scale to be seen at a glance. Values represent generation from all fuel sources combined.
Net generation data are collected from power plant operators through the EIA Form EIA-923 survey. State totals are summed across all generator types and sectors.
EIA reports net generation, which can occasionally be slightly negative for a fuel — for example when a plant's own electricity use exceeds the small amount it generates in a year (this shows up for categories like "Other" or "Petroleum" in a few states). Because negative generation isn't meaningful here, any such values are shown as zero.
