What this data measures

The percentage year-over-year change in total retail electricity consumption by state. This shows the growth rate of electricity demand, making it easier to compare across states of different sizes.

How this data is constructed

Retail electricity sales by state are sourced from the EIA Form EIA-861 survey. Annual percentage growth is computed by dividing the change in sales from one year to the next by the prior year's total sales.
