Average annual natural gas prices by state and sector — residential, commercial, industrial, and electric power — adjusted for inflation to 2024 dollars. Natural gas prices vary substantially by state due to differences in pipeline access, storage capacity, and local market conditions.
Annual natural gas price data by state are sourced from the EIA's Natural Gas Prices dataset (EIA DNAV, annual series). EIA computes these as total revenue divided by total volume, so they are volume-weighted rather than an average of the twelve monthly prices — which would over-weight the low-volume, high-price summer months. Only sectors with sufficient state coverage are shown.
To adjust for inflation, nominal prices are deflated using the annual CPIAUCSL series from FRED, rebased to 2024 dollars.
