Note: Values for states are calculated as the customer-weighted averages of utility-level SAIDI. Data covers distribution-level outages only.

What this data measures

SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) by state, including major event days such as severe storms, hurricanes, and other extreme weather events. Including major events gives the full picture of the outage burden experienced by customers.

How this data is constructed

SAIDI data are reported by electric distribution utilities through the EIA Form EIA-861 Reliability Supplement. The "including major event days" measure is the raw total of all customer interruption minutes, without filtering for extreme events.
