Note: Values for states are calculated as the customer-weighted averages of utility-level SAIFI. Data covers distribution-level outages only.

What this data measures

SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) by state, including major event days. This gives the total count of outage events experienced by the average customer, without filtering for storms or other extreme weather.

How this data is constructed

SAIFI data are reported through the EIA Form EIA-861 Reliability Supplement. The "including major event days" figure is the raw total of all interruptions recorded, regardless of cause.
