The System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI) by state, excluding major event days. SAIFI measures how many times the average customer experiences an electrical interruption in a year. Lower values mean fewer outages.
SAIFI data are reported by electric distribution utilities through the EIA Form EIA-861 Reliability Supplement, collected annually since 2013. The EIA aggregates utility-level reports to state totals weighted by customer count.
Major event days are excluded using the IEEE 1366 standard method, providing a view of routine reliability without the influence of rare catastrophic events.
